Or was this revenge on the part of a girl Allison knew in her sorority cult, “The Promise?”
Athens homicide detective Michael Gallagher is assigned to the case along with his partner, Elie Lee Larson, a sassy, young FBI profiler from Quantico, Virginia. Together, they follow a trail of colorful suspects, eventful twists and turns finally climaxing in an ending so unforeseen and shocking that leaves everyone breathless at the end, some literally. A classic whodunit.
The Promise Mike Gallagher Mystery Series eBook Patrick Hurley
This book starts out with the abduction of a beautiful young woman. An undercover police officer is assigned to the case. Immediately it becomes obvious that this supposed police woman has some severe problems. She spends most of her time crying and complaining. The lead detective on the case is also somewhat strange as he spends some time feeling sorry for himself because he is not able to immediately solve the mystery. Almost to the end of the book a huge surprise is thrown into the story. Unfortunately it is such a huge surprise that noone would ever believe it.If the formatting and editing were cleaned up this would not be a bad read.

The Promise Mike Gallagher Mystery Series eBook Patrick Hurley Reviews
This book did little more than kill time for me. The characters are undeveloped and you feel no investment to them or the story they are investigating.
I Promise, "The Promise" will capture you from the very begining. I "Promise" you will not want to put it down; I "Promise" it will challenge your mystery solving skills. I have read many Baldacci and Grisham Novels, "The Promise" has a place in my book collection right next to theirs.
This is a great story with twists and turns to keep you from putting it down. as you near the end and you think you have it all figured out wham a surprise. Read this when you have time and don't have to worry about putting it down, because you won't be able to until your done
I was very surprised at this book. I figured it was just another run of the mill detective book. There was so much going on but in a good way. Never figured the ending. No spoilers here. I definitely liked this book. Would read another one from this series with this detective.
The story was interesting, but it just seemed to drag on and on and got a little boring. When you finally found out who did the killing it was a surprise, but you almost didn't care by then. There were some editing issues. I really didn't like his lucky little leprechaun, I found it very juvenile. For a free book it was OK, but I'm glad I didn't pay for it.
Patrick is a good story teller. I easily overlooked some editing and factual flaws as I wondered how Patrick would wrap up this mystery. The puzzle that Patrick never solved was Ms. Larsen's profession - FBI Special Agent or detective? Every FBI "agent" would be quick to point out the difference. Ok, Ok--bottom line, I'd recommend this story and will probably read another of Patrick's tales.
Thankfully did not pay for this book. Would have felt I threw my $$ away. Very, very slow pace-1/2 way through found myself scanning pages for anything written that would help me confirm who-did-it. Too much superfluous dialogue that is not relevant to characters or plot. Pretty slim plot to begin with. This book needs editing. Numerous typos. Only reason for 2 stars instead of 1 because I wanted to see how the author pulled this ridiculousness together. I will not read anything from this author again.
